Bryce Young on shaky ground as Panthers’ veteran Andy Dalton waits in the wings for potential QB shake-up

Bryce Young Faces Pressure as Andy Dalton Looms in Carolina

The Carolina Panthers find themselves at a critical juncture in the third year of the Bryce Young experiment. As the former first overall pick navigates a challenging start to the season, questions arise about his future as the team’s starting quarterback.

Struggles in the Spotlight

In the opening week, Young’s performance left much to be desired. He managed to throw for only 154 yards, accompanied by one touchdown and two interceptions. Such a lackluster outing raises concerns about his ability to lead the team effectively. If he falters again in upcoming games, the possibility of him being sidelined grows increasingly likely.

The Backup Plan

Should Young’s struggles continue, the Panthers have a seasoned veteran waiting in the wings. Andy Dalton, affectionately known as the “Red Rifle,” serves as the team’s backup quarterback. At 37 years old, Dalton is in his third year with the Panthers, adding depth and experience to the roster. Over his 11-year NFL career, he has played for several teams, including the Bengals, Saints, Bears, and Cowboys.

In his last five starts, Dalton has thrown for 989 yards, with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. Notably, both he and Young had opportunities to lead the offense last season, but neither managed to bring the desired success to the Panthers.

A Strong Investment in Young

Carolina has made a significant investment in Young, suggesting that he will likely receive more chances to prove himself than Dalton. However, new head coach Dave Canales has shown a willingness to pivot to the veteran quarterback if Young’s performance does not meet expectations.

As the season unfolds, it is clear that Dalton will be poised to step in if needed. The pressure is mounting for Young, and every passing game will be crucial in determining his standing as the starter in Carolina.

Looking Ahead

With the Panthers’ recent struggles and the looming threat of a quarterback change, the stakes have never been higher for Bryce Young. The coming weeks will reveal whether he can rise to the occasion or if Andy Dalton will be called upon to lead the team.
