Browns fans eager as Quinshon Judkins set for anticipated NFL debut

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins is poised to make his highly awaited NFL debut in Week 2, as he has been activated ahead of Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Baltimore Ravens. The second-round pick, selected 36th overall in April, brings a wave of expectations as he joins a backfield already populated by Jerome Ford and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson. However, Judkins’ exceptional talent has led many to believe he could emerge as the cornerstone of this group.

Cautious Approach for the Rookie

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns plan to take a measured approach with Judkins in his debut. The coaching staff intends to “closely monitor” his snaps, utilizing him primarily as a backup while he acclimates to the speed of the game. Although he won’t shoulder the starter’s workload immediately, the hope is that he can eventually seize the role. For now, the focus is on easing him back into game shape after a challenging offseason that kept him away from the team.

Offseason Turbulence

Judkins’ early months in the NFL have been anything but smooth sailing. He faced a significant setback in July when he was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge in Florida, which cast a shadow over his status with the Browns. Fortunately for Judkins, prosecutors chose not to pursue the case by mid-August. This decision allowed him to rejoin the team, and he quickly signed a four-year, $11.4 million contract. After practicing for the first time since minicamp late last week, he was activated just in time for the crucial matchup against Baltimore.

Head Coach’s Confidence

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski expressed confidence in Judkins’ progress, stating that he has “done everything we’ve asked him to do up to this point” during practice. Despite this positive outlook, it’s important to note that Judkins’ status remains under league review. The NFL is continuing to investigate the incident from the offseason, but he has not been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, allowing him to participate in games while the inquiry unfolds.

A Timely Boost for the Rushing Attack

The Browns could certainly benefit from Judkins’ presence after a disappointing performance in Week 1, where their rushing attack managed just 49 yards, averaging a mere 2 yards per carry in a narrow 17-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. While Ford is expected to lead the backfield against Baltimore, Judkins’ size, burst, and vision present Cleveland with a fresh offensive weapon, even if his role is limited in the early stages of his debut.

A Long-Awaited Moment for Fans

Browns fans have been eager to see Judkins don the team’s uniform, and this weekend will provide the first glimpse of his potential on an NFL field. If everything aligns as the organization hopes, Sunday could mark the beginning of Judkins’ journey toward becoming the Browns’ long-term solution at running back. The anticipation is palpable, and all eyes will be on the rookie as he takes his first steps into the professional arena.
