Broncos boost roster with Adam Prentice and Garrett Wallow for crucial Colts clash in Indianapolis showdown

Broncos Elevate Adam Prentice and Garrett Wallow for Key Matchup Against Colts

The Denver Broncos are making strategic moves ahead of their crucial Sunday matchup against the Indianapolis Colts by elevating two practice-squad players. Fullback Adam Prentice and linebacker Garrett Wallow are set to join the gameday roster, providing depth and versatility for the team.

Adam Prentice’s Return

Adam Prentice, now in his fifth NFL season, is stepping back into a familiar role with the Broncos. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina in 2021, Prentice has had a varied career that includes a stint with the New Orleans Saints during Sean Payton’s tenure as head coach.

His elevation comes at a pivotal time, particularly following the injury of Michael Burton earlier this summer. The Broncos’ decision to bring Prentice back raises questions about his future with the team. Nate Adkins, who is regarded as Denver’s premier blocking tight end and has also filled in as a fullback, participated in practice this week for the first time since suffering an ankle injury.

As Adkins continues to recover, it remains to be seen whether the Broncos will retain Prentice on the roster or potentially waive him once Adkins is fully healthy. Adkins’ dual capability as a tight end and fullback makes him a valuable asset, especially in a tight end-rich offense.

Garrett Wallow Provides Linebacker Depth

Garrett Wallow, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker, is entering his fourth season in the NFL. Drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Texans in 2021, Wallow has accumulated 36 career tackles, including 22 solo stops, and has made five starts over his tenure. His experience extends to special teams, where he has contributed six tackles.

With Dre Greenlaw sidelined for a second consecutive week, the Broncos are seeking to bolster their linebacker corps. The starting duo will consist of Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad, while Wallow and rookie Karene Reid will provide essential depth. Wallow’s willingness to contribute on special teams is especially critical, given the Broncos’ struggles in coverage during their last game. The team’s inability to contain punt and kick returns has been a point of concern, making Wallow’s elevation all the more relevant.

Implications for the Broncos’ Roster

The decision to promote Wallow over Levelle Bailey, who has garnered approval from the coaching staff, sends a clear message: performance on special teams is vital. Bailey now faces a challenge to prove his worth or risk being left behind as the Broncos look to enhance their squad.

Wallow’s work ethic and determination have made him a favorite among coaches. His early opportunities with the Broncos, following his free-agent signing this past summer, reflect the team’s confidence in his abilities as they prepare for a significant clash against the Colts.

As the Broncos gear up for this pivotal matchup, the contributions from Prentice and Wallow could prove crucial in their quest for a much-needed victory.
