Bijan Robinson on the Brink of NFL History Against the Saints
With the final game of the season looming, Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson stands on the precipice of history. If he can achieve 255 total yards this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, he will break the NFL’s all-time single-season scrimmage yards record of 2,509, a mark set by Chris Johnson in 2009.
Recent Performance Excellence
Robinson showcased his exceptional talent in a thrilling matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. He rushed for an impressive 195 yards, which included a breathtaking 93-yard touchdown run—the longest of the season. Additionally, he contributed 34 yards and a touchdown through the air, playing a pivotal role in the Falcons’ 27-24 victory. This stellar performance propelled him ahead of the competition, as he currently leads the league in scrimmage yards with a total of 2,255, nearly 200 yards ahead of second-place Christian McCaffrey, who has 2,069 yards.
In breaking the Falcons’ record for scrimmage yards in a season, Robinson also became the NFL’s leader in career scrimmage yards before turning 24, accumulating 5,605 yards. This remarkable achievement underscores his potential to make an even greater mark in the game.
The Challenge Ahead
Reaching 255 yards in a single game is no easy feat, and should Robinson accomplish this, it would represent the most he has ever recorded in one outing. Throughout the season, he has come close, notably with 229 yards against the Rams and 238 yards on a Monday Night in October against the Buffalo Bills.
The Falcons’ upcoming contest against the Saints will be critical not only for Robinson’s personal milestones but also for the team’s success. Historically, he has found success against New Orleans, surpassing 100 total yards from scrimmage in four of his five career games against them. In their last meeting, he made a memorable impact with a 73-yard receiving touchdown, the longest of his career.
Chasing Milestones
While the record-breaking performance may seem daunting, Robinson also has several more attainable milestones within reach. If he can secure 138 yards on Sunday, he will ascend into the top three for single-season scrimmage yards in NFL history, surpassing Christian McCaffrey’s 2019 mark of 2,392 yards. Furthermore, just 28 additional yards would allow him to eclipse Saquon Barkley’s total of 2,283 yards from last season, marking the highest figure for any player over the last six years.
As Robinson approaches this critical game, he remains at 2,195 scrimmage yards, needing 89 more across the final two weeks to surpass Barkley’s record. With each passing game, he not only chases history but also solidifies his place among the elite in the NFL.
