Bengals set to face former Broncos trio as Fant, Risner, and Perine aim for Monday night revenge game

Bengals prepare for revenge against former Broncos stars

The Cincinnati Bengals will face off against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, as both teams strive to regain momentum in their respective seasons. One of the most captivating narratives of this matchup is the presence of three former Broncos players now donning Bengals uniforms: Noah Fant, Dalton Risner, and Samaje Perine. Each has a story to tell and a point to prove against their former franchise.

Injury Report Hits Hard for Bengals

As the Bengals gear up for this critical contest, the injury report reveals challenges for the team. Notably, Noah Fant, the standout tight end, is unlikely to participate due to a concussion. This absence is a significant blow, considering his role as the team’s leading tight end this season, where he has recorded 12 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown across three games.

Fant was originally drafted by the Broncos with their first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, following a trade down the board. Over three seasons in Denver, he amassed impressive statistics, including 170 receptions for 1,905 yards and 10 touchdowns. His time in Denver ended when he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2022 season as part of the deal to bring quarterback Russell Wilson to Denver. After spending a season in Seattle, Fant was released and signed with the Bengals in late July.

Risner and Perine: A New Chapter in Cincinnati

Dalton Risner, who has also found a new home in Cincinnati, spent the offseason searching for a team before ultimately signing with the Bengals in late August. Now one of the starting guards, Risner is part of an offensive line that has come under scrutiny for its performance. The pressure is palpable, especially after quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury in Week 2, leading to a chorus of blame directed at the offensive line from the fanbase.

Samaje Perine adds another layer to the story. After a single season with the Broncos in 2023, where he caught 50 passes, Perine appeared to be a vital part of Denver’s future plans. However, the drafting of running back Audric Estime and the unexpected rise of undrafted free agent Jaleel McLaughlin led to his surprising release before the season began. Now back with the Bengals for a second stint, Perine has been utilized sparingly but stands as the No. 2 running back behind Chase Brown.

Looking Ahead

As the Bengals prepare for this Monday night clash, the stage is set for Fant, Risner, and Perine to showcase their skills against the team that once counted on them. While the Bengals face the added challenge of injuries, the opportunity for revenge looms large, making this matchup one to watch closely. The outcome could have significant implications for both franchises as they look to turn their seasons around.
