Bengals Target Top Pass Rushers Following David Bailey’s Standout Orange Bowl Performance

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are acutely aware of their need for enhanced pass rushing capabilities. As they look to build a more formidable defense, the organization is focused on adding impactful players while continuing to nurture the young talent cultivated over recent seasons.

Scouts in Attendance at the Orange Bowl

Cincinnati was one of ten teams that dispatched scouts to the Orange Bowl, featuring a matchup between Oregon and Texas Tech, as reported by Ryan Fowler. Other teams involved included the Chargers, Eagles, Jets, Dolphins, 49ers, Commanders, Panthers, Cowboys, and Patriots. The game concluded with Oregon securing a dominant 23-0 victory, but it was Texas Tech’s David Bailey who emerged as the standout performer.

David Bailey’s Dominance

Bailey’s impressive stat line included nine tackles, two tackles for loss, two passes defended, and a sack. His performance has solidified his status as a likely first-round pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. The Bengals had a front-row seat to his impressive display, showcasing the type of talent they are keen on adding to their roster.

Other Prospects to Watch

In addition to Bailey, Oregon defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei also caught the attention of scouts. If he chooses to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, he too is expected to be a high pick. Uiagalelei made an impact with a strip sack and two tackles, one of which was for a loss, further demonstrating the caliber of players on the field.

Bengals’ Draft Position and Future Needs

Cincinnati is projected to select somewhere in the 8-12 range in the upcoming draft, with the final order solidified following Sunday’s game against the Browns. It’s clear that the Bengals must prioritize bolstering their pass rush as they head into the offseason.

Currently, they have built a solid foundation in their secondary with cornerbacks Dax Hill and DJ Turner II. However, enhancing the pass rush and proactively addressing defensive needs during free agency will be crucial for the Bengals to improve their standing come the 2026 season.

A Bright Future Ahead

As the Bengals set their sights on potential draft picks like Bailey and Uiagalelei, the emphasis remains on ensuring a more robust defense. The organization is well aware of the importance of a strong pass rush in the increasingly competitive landscape of the NFL.

For a closer look at Bailey’s standout plays from the Orange Bowl, highlights have been shared showcasing his impressive performance. The Bengals are poised to make significant strides as they eye promising prospects to elevate their defensive lineup.
