Ben Brown secures $6.6 million extension, commits to Patriots through 2027
As the regular season approaches its conclusion, the New England Patriots are proactively positioning themselves for the upcoming free agency landscape. In a significant move, reserve offensive lineman Ben Brown has officially signed a contract extension, ensuring he will not enter restricted free agency in 2026. This two-year extension, which has been reported to be valued at up to $6.6 million, will keep Brown with the Patriots until 2027.
Contract Details
The base value of Brown’s new deal is estimated at around $5 million. This extension highlights the team’s confidence in Brown, who has demonstrated his worth during his second season in New England. His adaptability across all three interior offensive line positions has made him a key asset, especially as one of the team’s leading backups.
Over the last two seasons, Brown has stepped up as a valuable spot starter, making 12 appearances in the starting lineup, including two games at left guard this season in place of the injured Jared Wilson. His contributions have been instrumental in bolstering the Patriots’ offensive line, particularly during a resurgence in performance.
A Journey to Stability
Brown’s journey in the NFL began as an undrafted free agent in 2022 after a successful college career at Ole Miss. After initially signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, he navigated through several teams before finding a lasting home in New England. His transition from the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders to an active roster player with the Patriots has been remarkable.
In his first year with the Patriots, Brown assumed the role of primary center following the injury of veteran David Andrews. His strong performance earned him a restricted free agent contract prior to the current season, and now, with this latest extension, he solidifies his position within the organization.
Adapting and Thriving
Earlier this season, Brown reflected on the challenges and excitement of shifting from center to guard, emphasizing his previous experience in college.
“It’s not too new for me because I played it a lot more in college than I did center, so I already had a lot of experience there prior to,” Brown shared. “And coming into the NFL, being able to play all three interior spots is so important. I feel like I’ve had that experience before and it’s not something that’s completely new to me.”
As the Patriots look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season, Brown’s versatility and commitment will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the team’s success.
