Falcons Offensive Line Under Fire Amid Run Game Troubles
The Atlanta Falcons have hit a rough patch, dropping two consecutive games following a promising 24-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. In these last two outings, the offense has managed a meager 20 points combined, a stark contrast to their earlier performance. The word “lackluster” scarcely does justice to the struggles displayed by the unit.
Offensive Line Struggles Highlighted
During a press conference on Wednesday, head coach Raheem Morris did not shy away from addressing the elephant in the room: the offensive line’s performance. He emphasized the pivotal role the line plays in the team’s overall success.
“When we don’t play well up front, we’re not going to play really well,” Morris remarked. “We got to play better up front. We want to be able to run the football. We want to be able to throw the football down the field.”
Acknowledgment of Accountability
All-Pro right guard Chris Lindstrom echoed Morris’s sentiments, acknowledging the legitimacy of the criticism directed at the offensive line.
“It’s deservingly so,” Lindstrom stated. “You know, we didn’t do our job, and when we can’t do that, we can’t give anybody opportunities. So, it starts up front, and that has meaning. We just need to be better.”
Run Blocking Woes
The statistics paint a troubling picture for the Falcons in the run game. The team’s run block win rate stands at an alarming 68%, which ranks them among the lowest in the league. Currently, they sit at 31st in the NFL, underscoring a critical area that requires immediate attention if they hope to regain their offensive rhythm.
As the Falcons continue to navigate this challenging stretch, all eyes will be on the offensive line to see if they can turn things around and reinvigorate the team’s run game. The road ahead will demand significant improvement, as the Falcons strive to reclaim their identity on offense.
