Injury Struggles for 49ers as Purdy and Kittle Sit Out, Fantasy Managers Face Tough Choices for Week 2

As the fantasy football season heats up, injury updates are making waves in Week 2. The San Francisco 49ers will be without key contributors Brock Purdy and George Kittle, leaving fantasy owners grappling with start-sit dilemmas as they look to either secure a second win or recover from an opening-week defeat. With several other notable players also nursing injuries, managers will need to make strategic decisions regarding their lineups.

Brock Bowers Injury Update

Brock Bowers sustained a knee injury that forced him out of the 49ers’ victory over the Raiders last Sunday. With Las Vegas not playing until Monday night, there is still time to assess his condition. Head coach Pete Carroll provided an optimistic outlook, stating, “Really, we’re just going day-to-day. Those guys are tough guys, now. They’re not going to take the easy way out on this one; they’re all going to push to get right.”

If Bowers is cleared to play, he is considered a must-start tight end. However, for those needing a backup plan, Michael Mayer, the other tight end for the Raiders, could be a valuable pickup since they play in the final game of the week.

Xavier Worthy Injury Update

Xavier Worthy’s Week 1 performance left fantasy owners disappointed, particularly after he suffered a dislocated shoulder in a collision with Travis Kelce during the Chiefs’ third offensive play. He missed practice on Wednesday, but his return to the field on Thursday with a significant shoulder wrap is a promising sign. Worthy’s ability to participate puts him in FLEX territory, and if he is active for the matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, he could exceed expectations in this Super Bowl rematch.

Dallas Goedert Injury Update

Eagles’ tight end Dallas Goedert is also facing challenges, having missed practice for two consecutive days due to a knee injury. If Goedert is unable to play, Grant Calcaterra may step in as a suitable replacement. Additionally, fantasy managers can explore the waiver wire for options like Juwan Johnson or Harold Fannin Jr. as potential fill-ins.

James Cook Injury Update

In contrast to his fellow playmakers, James Cook received positive news regarding his status. After being limited in practice on Wednesday, he returned as a full participant on Thursday. This development indicates that Cook is on track to play in the Bills’ upcoming matchup against the New York Jets. Managers can confidently start him as a reliable fantasy running back.

As the injury landscape continues to evolve, fantasy football enthusiasts will need to stay vigilant and make informed choices to optimize their lineups for Week 2.
