Tyler Herro faces injury setback ahead of crucial game
After a promising comeback from ankle surgery, Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is now facing a potential hurdle as he navigates what could be a pivotal season in his career. On Friday morning, the Heat announced that Herro has been placed on the injury report due to irritation in his right big toe, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming game against the Orlando Magic.
MRI scheduled to assess the injury
Head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed that Herro is set to undergo an MRI on Saturday, which will provide more clarity on the severity of the injury. The timing of this setback is particularly concerning, as Herro was beginning to find his rhythm after missing the first 17 games of the season. His return saw him lead the team with 24 points in a victory over the Dallas Mavericks on November 24, marking a strong debut for the season.
Team depth offers some reassurance
Despite Herro’s uncertain status, the Heat appear to have adequate depth to manage his absence. Norman Powell, who is returning from an ankle sprain, is expected to step back into the rotation. Additionally, Andrew Wiggins, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Pelle Larsson are all available for selection, as noted in the 11:30 AM ET injury report.
If Spoelstra decides to stick with his current starting lineup, Larsson is likely to fill in for Herro. He had already taken over in the starting five during Herro’s one-game absence earlier this week against Dallas.
Herro’s return and performance
In the five games since his return, Herro has shown impressive form, averaging 23.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over approximately 31.4 minutes of play. His contributions are crucial for the Heat as they aim to solidify their position in the league. As the MRI results loom, the organization will anxiously await news on Herro’s condition and its implications for the season ahead.
