Trail Blazers make a bold move with Andrew Carr signing

The Portland Trail Blazers have made a significant addition to their roster, signing 6-foot-11 forward Andrew Carr. Announced on the team’s official website, Carr’s arrival comes as the Blazers look to bolster their frontcourt depth ahead of the upcoming NBA preseason.

Carr, who showcased his skills at the University of Kentucky during the 2024-25 season, finished his college career with an average of 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. His journey through college basketball began at Delaware, before he transferred to Wake Forest, and ultimately landed at Kentucky.

A consistent scorer with a versatile skill set

Throughout his collegiate tenure, Carr demonstrated his scoring ability, averaging double figures in each of his last four seasons. During the 2023-24 season at Wake Forest, he excelled, posting 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Carr also displayed a reliable shooting touch, converting 34.0% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Defensively, he contributed with an average of one block per game over his five years in college, showcasing his potential as a two-way player.

Depth in the frontcourt

While Carr brings promising skills to the table, the Trail Blazers already possess a wealth of talent in the center position. With returning player Donovan Clingan and rookie Yang Hansen both vying for playing time, Carr is likely to serve as organizational depth. Additionally, the Blazers have former Celtics big man Robert Williams, known for his high-energy play.

Despite the competitive landscape, Carr’s signing represents an opportunity for him to prove his worth as training camp approaches. The preseason will provide a critical platform for him to showcase his abilities and potentially carve out a role within the team.

Looking ahead

As the Blazers prepare for the upcoming season, Carr’s addition might not only bolster their roster but also offer a glimpse into their long-term strategy. With young talent and established players, the team is poised for an intriguing preseason as they assess the potential fit of Carr and others in their system.
