Timberwolves Enhance Training Camp Roster with G League Standouts
The Minnesota Timberwolves have finalized their training camp roster, welcoming three promising players: Alize Johnson, Jules Bernard, and Zyon Pullin. This announcement comes just as the team gears up for camp, which kicks off on Tuesday.
Roster Additions Bring Depth
The Timberwolves completed their 21-player roster on Sunday, incorporating the trio of newcomers, who are expected to sign Exhibit 10 deals. These non-guaranteed one-year contracts will provide the team with added depth during training camp. While the specifics of their contracts have not been disclosed, the expectation is that if they perform well, they could secure two-way deals or find themselves assigned to the Iowa Wolves in the G League.
In a related move, guard CJ Fulton and forward Nate Santos have been waived, clearing space for the new additions.
Alize Johnson’s Journey
Alize Johnson, 29, was the 50th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, selected by the Indiana Pacers after a standout career at Missouri State. Over the last few seasons, Johnson has navigated through several teams, including the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, and San Antonio Spurs.
His most notable performances came in 2021 with Brooklyn, where he recorded two spectacular games: one featuring 23 points and 15 rebounds, and another with 20 points and 21 rebounds. Across his NBA career, which spans 76 games, Johnson has averaged 2.5 points and 3.0 rebounds.
However, Johnson has thrived in the G League, where he boasts impressive averages of 18.3 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game over nearly 100 contests. Since his last NBA appearance in December 2022, he has played professionally in South Korea, Puerto Rico, and Japan, making this training camp an opportunity for his NBA resurgence.
Zyon Pullin’s Potential
Zyon Pullin, a 24-year-old guard/wing, is another addition to the Timberwolves’ camp. He honed his skills at UC Riverside and Florida before going undrafted last year. Pullin made his NBA debut with the Memphis Grizzlies in February and showcased his talent in the G League, where he averaged 15 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 34 games.
Standing at 6’4″, Pullin brings versatility as a shooter, scorer, and secondary playmaker, making him an interesting prospect for the Timberwolves.
Jules Bernard’s Experience
Jules Bernard, 25, rounds out the trio. A 6’7″ left-handed guard/wing from UCLA, Bernard went undrafted in 2022 but found his way to the NBA, playing 19 games with the Washington Wizards during the 2023-24 season.
His G League performances have been particularly noteworthy, as he averaged 17.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over 114 games. His combination of size and skill could provide a valuable asset for Minnesota as the team looks to strengthen its roster.
Looking Ahead
The Timberwolves are set to hold their annual media day on Monday, with training camp commencing the following day. Fans can mark their calendars for the first preseason game against the Denver Nuggets, scheduled for next Saturday in San Diego. With these new additions, Minnesota aims to build a competitive edge as they prepare for the upcoming season.
