Taran Armstrong makes waves with EuroLeague move

The Golden State Warriors had an intriguing situation on their hands this past week. Taran Armstrong, the promising Australian point guard, was presented with a two-way qualifying offer that remained unaccepted. Rather than sticking with the Warriors, Armstrong opted for a fresh start, signing a two-year contract with Dubai Basketball, as confirmed by various reports.

Armstrong’s Journey with the Warriors

Armstrong first joined the Warriors in February, inking a two-way contract that allowed him to split time between the NBA and the G League. During his stint with the Santa Cruz Warriors, he showcased his potential across 11 games, averaging 11.5 points, 8.2 assists, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. Despite this promising performance, he did not see any action with the NBA Warriors last season.

His time in Las Vegas during the Summer League provided further opportunities for exposure, yet Armstrong ultimately decided that his best path forward was not with the Warriors.

A New Chapter in Dubai

Armstrong’s new team, Dubai Basketball, is now competing in the EuroLeague, marking a significant step in his career. The EuroLeague is recognized as the premier level of basketball outside the NBA, and joining this competitive environment could serve as a platform for his talents to flourish.

Armstrong’s track record suggests he has the skills to excel overseas. During his time with the Cairns Taipans in Australia’s NBL, he averaged an impressive 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game, evidence of his capability to make an impact on the court.

A Talented Roster in Dubai

The Dubai Basketball team boasts an impressive lineup, featuring several former NBA players, including Davis Bertans, Dwayne Bacon, and Justin Anderson. This blend of talent presents Armstrong with an opportunity to grow alongside established athletes, further enhancing his development as a player.

Notably, Armstrong’s contract reportedly includes an opt-out clause after one season. This detail keeps the door open for a potential return to the NBA should he catch the attention of teams back in the league.

As Armstrong embarks on this new chapter in his career, it will be fascinating to see how he adapts to the challenges of the EuroLeague and whether he can make a strong case for a return to the NBA in the future.
