Stephen A. Smith Envisions Knicks’ Journey to the NBA Finals

The buzz around the New York Knicks continues to grow as they look ahead to the next NBA season. Following a commendable run to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they fell short against the Indiana Pacers, the question on many minds is whether the Knicks can replicate that success and make a deeper push in 2026. Sports analyst and fervent Knicks supporter Stephen A. Smith recently weighed in on the team’s prospects, providing a mix of optimism and caution regarding their chances.

Smith’s Bold Prediction

During a recent segment of his show, Smith made a noteworthy declaration about the Knicks’ future. While he tempered expectations regarding an immediate championship victory, he did express strong confidence in their potential to reach the NBA Finals. “I don’t think you’re gonna see them win the championship, but are you ready for this? I think the Knicks are going to the Finals,” Smith stated emphatically to a caller, signaling his belief in the team’s upward trajectory.

Assessing the Competition

Smith’s assessment of the Eastern Conference landscape plays a pivotal role in his prediction. He pointed out key developments that could open the door for the Knicks. “Giannis doesn’t have Lillard anymore. Jayson Tatum is out for the year. Cleveland wet the bed in the postseason. No reason to believe that can’t happen again,” Smith elaborated, highlighting the vulnerabilities of other contenders.

Despite the emergence of teams like the Orlando Magic, who recently bolstered their roster with the addition of Desmond Bane, Smith remains skeptical about their readiness to challenge for supremacy just yet. He notes that, “I’m just looking at certain things in the Eastern Conference, and I think the dominoes have fallen in favor of the New York Knicks representing the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.”

The Bucks and the Road Ahead

The Milwaukee Bucks, perennial contenders led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, remain a looming threat. However, Smith pointed out the Bucks’ struggles to advance deep into the playoffs since their championship win. With the Eastern Conference landscape shifting, the Knicks may find themselves in a favorable position to capitalize on the misfortunes of their rivals.

As the Knicks prepare for the upcoming season, Smith’s insights offer a compelling glimpse into the dynamics at play in the Eastern Conference. While the championship may still seem a distant dream, the path to the NBA Finals appears increasingly attainable for a franchise eager to reclaim its former glory.
