Sixers prepare for Pacers showdown with Embiid’s likely return

After a prolonged break that included two days off and a couple of practice sessions during the NBA Cup, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to host the struggling Indiana Pacers, who currently sit at 6-18, this Friday. The latest injury report from Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time paints a relatively optimistic picture for the Sixers as they gear up for the matchup.

Embiid’s Status and Team Health

Joel Embiid has been listed as ‘probable’ as he continues his recovery from a left knee injury. His potential return could provide a significant boost to the Sixers, who are eager to climb the standings. Meanwhile, Paul George has not appeared on the injury report at all, signaling that he should be available for play unless any last-minute complications arise.

However, the report did note Tyrese Maxey’s name, listing him as ‘probable’ due to an illness. While his absence would be felt, the team still appears to have most of its key players ready to go.

That said, the Sixers will be without Kelly Oubre Jr., who is dealing with a sprained left knee, and Trendo Watford, who has a strained left adductor. Rookie guard Hunter Sallis will also miss the game due to a sprained right shoulder. Additionally, rookie big man Johni Broome is currently on a G-League assignment and is considered ‘questionable’ for the matchup.

Injury Woes for the Pacers

In stark contrast, the Pacers are grappling with an array of injuries that have significantly impacted their roster. Star guard Tyrese Haliburton remains sidelined as he recovers from a torn right Achilles tendon, a blow that has hampered the team’s overall effectiveness.

Further complicating matters, starter Aaron Nesmith will not be available due to a sprained MCL in his left knee. The bench is also feeling the strain, as reserves Obi Toppin (stress fracture in his right foot) and Ben Sheppard (strained left calf) are both out. Additionally, Kam Jones will miss the game due to a stress reaction in his lower back, while Quenton Jackson is listed as ‘questionable’ with a strained right hamstring.

Looking Ahead

Despite the concerns surrounding injuries, it appears that Embiid is likely to take the court for the Sixers. The team hinted at his return on their official social media account, posting a message that indicated excitement for the game: “hoops back tomorrow.”

As the Sixers prepare to face an injury-riddled Pacers squad, all eyes will be on Embiid’s status and how his presence could influence the game’s outcome.
