Rookie Cooper Flagg Embraces Virtual Reality as He Joins the Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg may not have laced up his sneakers for official practice yet, but he is already immersing himself in his new environment through a digital lens. Flagg has turned to the latest edition of the NBA 2K video game to simulate his integration into the Mavericks’ lineup, allowing him to visualize how he will mesh with established stars like Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

Virtual Preparation for Real Challenges

Ronnie Singh, the Digital Marketing Director for NBA 2K, shared insights into Flagg’s unique approach to preparation. In a recent conversation, Singh revealed that Flagg has been actively using the game to map out his role within the team.

“I’ve been talking to Cooper Flagg a lot the last couple of weeks, and he’s already trying to shape up how he’s going to fit into that team by playing the NBA 2K26 game with him, integrated with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis,” Singh explained. “He might not get to play with Kyrie for a minute, so it’s kind of cool that he gets to simulate that, see how the off-the-ball movement is. Our AI is so good. It really simulates the authentic experience of being on the court.”

This virtual training is particularly beneficial for Flagg, as he navigates the complexities of joining a team with championship aspirations. The ability to practice in a simulated environment offers a glimpse into the dynamics he will encounter on the hardwood.

Kyrie Irving’s Recovery and Future Collaboration

While Flagg dives into the digital world, the presence of Kyrie Irving looms large. The All-Star guard is currently on the mend from a torn ACL, which he sustained in March. His anticipated return later in the season adds an element of uncertainty to Flagg’s preparation.

Though Flagg will initially miss the opportunity to share the court with Irving, he is leveraging this time to familiarize himself with how to operate alongside an elite playmaker. The Mavericks are banking on Flagg’s adaptability and talent as they seek to position themselves as contenders in the competitive Western Conference.

Flagg’s Promising Potential

Flagg’s arrival in Dallas is notable, as he is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects to enter the NBA in recent years. The Mavericks are keenly aware of the expectations that come with selecting a player of his caliber.

As Flagg transitions into the professional ranks, his ability to learn and grow, both virtually and in real-time, will be pivotal in determining his impact on the team. For now, he continues to prepare, blending the lines between virtual simulation and the thrilling reality that awaits him in the NBA.
