Magic Look to Build Momentum After Undefeated Preseason

The Orlando Magic are stepping into the upcoming NBA season with confidence, having wrapped up an undefeated preseason following a thrilling 132-125 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Kia Center. This performance not only solidifies their preparation but also sets a positive tone as they gear up for the 82-game regular season.

Banchero Highlights Team Cohesion

Magic forward Paolo Banchero, a standout throughout the preseason, expressed satisfaction with his team’s collective effort in their final tune-up before the games count. “I thought we played together. I thought it was probably our best team effort of the preseason,” Banchero remarked. He acknowledged that while there were areas to refine, the game served as an essential building block for the season ahead.

Every starter logged significant minutes, with Banchero himself playing 30. His emphasis on teamwork was evident as he noted, “We shared the ball well. I thought we were talking to each other and communicating well.” This level of synergy will be crucial as the Magic transition into the regular season.

Coach Mosley’s Strategic Approach

Head coach Jamahl Mosley was deliberate in his approach, ensuring that key rotation players received ample playing time. Following the game, he articulated the strategy behind this decision. “We’ve got to manage the right amount of recovery with the right amount of work,” Mosley said. His objective was clear: to maximize conditioning while also preparing the team for the intensity of the regular season. He added that the final minutes of the game were designed to push the players’ limits, emphasizing the importance of both recovery and exertion.

Mosley observed that the game provided valuable insights into the team’s performance. “I love the way we shared the basketball; 33 assists is a great number for us,” he noted. However, he also recognized the need for improvement, particularly in defense, as the Pelicans amassed 72 points in the paint. “We need to create a wall a little earlier,” he advised, signaling an area of focus as they head into more competitive matchups.

Lessons Learned and Future Challenges

As the Magic prepare for the regular season, they possess a mix of strengths and areas needing improvement. Mosley emphasized that the lessons learned during the preseason should be taken seriously, as they will influence their performance in the long run. The stakes will only grow higher as they face stronger opponents, and being mindful of these lessons will be vital.

The Orlando Magic enter this season with a renewed sense of purpose and readiness. With a solid foundation built during the preseason, they are aware of the challenges ahead but remain committed to refining their game. This blend of optimism and realism will be crucial as they embark on their journey through the regular season.
