Norman Powell erupts, claims he’s been shadowed by NBA superstars for too long

Norman Powell Steps Into the Spotlight

Norman Powell, the Miami Heat’s scoring dynamo, believes it’s high time he receives the respect he deserves. The journey from being a second-round pick to a crucial contributor for the champion Toronto Raptors in 2019 has been a winding road. After his tenure in Toronto, Powell was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers before eventually signing with the Los Angeles Clippers. Yet, throughout his career, he often found himself overshadowed by a constellation of NBA superstars, including Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Paul George, and James Harden.

A Breakout Season in Miami

The 2024-25 season marked a turning point for Powell. His impressive performance, averaging 24 points in the first three games, showcased his scoring ability and potential as a leading player. However, a setback in the form of a groin injury has sidelined him for the last two games. Despite this, anticipation builds around his return, with possibilities of him hitting the court against the Los Angeles Lakers soon.

Finding His Voice

Recently, Powell took a moment to visit the Amazon NBA set, alongside teammate Bam Adebayo. Their appearance included engaging discussions with former players such as Udonis Haslem, Blake Griffin, and Dirk Nowitzki. During this gathering, Powell expressed his thoughts on being underrated in the league.

“I think so. Just the roles that I’ve had and the players that I’ve played with—you’re on championship teams and they have already built their franchise player,” he stated. “I could have 20 and 8, but you’re with James, Russ, and Kawhi and PG.”

His reflections highlight the challenge of being a talented player in the shadow of superstars, where contributions can often go unnoticed.

Looking Ahead

As Powell prepares for his return, the focus remains on how he can elevate his game and help the Heat make a significant impact this season. His journey is a testament to resilience, and with renewed opportunities ahead, he is poised to claim his place among the league’s elite.
