New York Knicks enhance frontcourt depth with Trey Jemison III signing
The New York Knicks have officially signed big man Trey Jemison III to a two-way contract, as reported by SNY’s Ian Begley. This addition is part of a series of recent training camp signings aimed at bolstering the team’s roster ahead of the upcoming season. Jemison will occupy one of the Knicks’ three available two-way spots, while reports indicate that Kevin McCullar Jr. is also expected to return on a similar deal, leaving just one two-way position open for competition.
Jemison’s NBA journey and stats
Throughout his two-year career, Jemison has participated in 63 NBA games, showcasing an average of 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest. He has played for several franchises, including the Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, and most recently, the Los Angeles Lakers. Last season, during his time with the Pelicans and Lakers, Jemison’s contributions were modest, as he averaged 2.5 points and 2.8 rebounds over 38 games, all coming off the bench.
A competitive training camp ahead
Jemison’s signing is just one of many moves the Knicks have made in the lead-up to training camp, as the team seeks to finalize its roster. He will face stiff competition from other recent additions, including Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet, Garrison Mathews, and Alex Len, all vying for the limited roster spots available.
In the frontcourt, Jemison faces a particularly challenging path to securing minutes. The Knicks currently boast a formidable depth chart at center, featuring Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson, Ariel Hukporti, and Guerschon Yabusele. Furthermore, Alex Len has been signed to a training camp deal, further intensifying the competition for playing time.
Knicks’ depth presents challenges for newcomers
As the Knicks head into training camp, they are regarded as one of the deepest teams in the NBA. This depth creates a challenging environment for players like Jemison, who must stand out to earn a spot in the rotation. Standing at 6’11” and weighing 260 pounds, Jemison aims to make a significant impact during training camp and earn his place among a talented roster. His performance in the coming weeks will be critical as he seeks to carve out a niche within the Knicks’ competitive structure.
