Lonzo Ball’s Ongoing Challenges with the Cavaliers
Since joining the Cleveland Cavaliers in the offseason, Lonzo Ball has faced an uphill battle in establishing himself as a reliable contributor off the bench. While his struggles are evident, they are not solely a reflection of his performance. Ball’s current status on the Cavaliers’ injury management list has limited his participation. He does not play in both games of back-to-back matchups, and his minutes are carefully monitored. This cautious approach has prevented fans from witnessing Ball at his full potential.
Atkinson’s Enduring Support
Despite the challenges, head coach Kenny Atkinson remains steadfast in his belief in Ball’s abilities. The veteran guard has recently grappled with physical issues and has been unable to find his shooting touch throughout the season. Yet, Atkinson emphasizes Ball’s commitment and hard work, pointing out that the guard has consistently made himself available to contribute to the team.
“I trust him,” Atkinson asserted with conviction. “I want him to find that rhythm. He was out sick for a couple of days, and I told him that it’s going to come. I felt that when we made that run in the fourth, he was part of that group. He got a couple of steals and got us going a little bit.”
A Tough Game Against the Trail Blazers
In a recent matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, Ball’s struggles were on full display. He recorded a dismal 1-for-9 shooting performance, with all but one of his attempts coming from beyond the arc, resulting in a mere three points, along with two assists and two steals. Despite the unflattering statistics in the Cavaliers’ 122-110 loss, Ball played a pivotal role in the team’s late-game efforts, contributing beyond just the box score as the Cavaliers mounted a fourth-quarter rally.
“You’ve got to go with your guys,” Atkinson remarked, reinforcing his commitment to Ball. “He’s my guy, so I’m going to keep going to him.”
As the season progresses, the Cavaliers and their fans remain hopeful that Ball will soon regain his rhythm and contribute more consistently to the team’s success.
