However, the current roster configuration presents a challenge. The introduction of the second-apron rule means the Knicks will need to part ways with one of their newly acquired veterans. One trade proposal gaining traction comes from Sam LaFrance of Hardwood Houdini, suggesting the Knicks could send second-year guard Tyler Kolek to the Boston Celtics. The rationale behind this move centers on the Knicks’ desire to retain their veteran presence while allowing Kolek, a second-round pick from Marquette, to find more playing time. LaFrance notes, “New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek may be a great sleeper trade candidate for Boston. The second-year man out of Marquette seems poised to be buried on New York’s bench for a second straight season, after the Knicks recently added depth with Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet.”

While parting with a young and promising player like Kolek could be disheartening for some Knicks supporters—especially given Boston’s standing as a historic rival—the potential benefits of such a transaction are compelling.

Strengthening the Roster for a Playoff Push

The Knicks’ starting lineup is already among the elite in the league, and the prospect of a second unit featuring Brogdon, Clarkson, Shamet, Deuce McBride, and Mitchell Robinson could be instrumental in maintaining competitiveness during critical game moments.
