Knicks gamble on 6-foot-11 Trey Jemison for front-court revival alongside Towns and Brunson

Knicks take a chance on Trey Jemison to bolster frontcourt alongside Towns and Brunson

The New York Knicks are in the midst of recalibrating their roster, aiming to enhance their competitiveness as they head into training camp. Among the notable additions is Trey Jemison, a 25-year-old big man previously sidelined with the Los Angeles Lakers. On Tuesday afternoon, the Knicks secured Jemison with a two-way contract, as reported by SNY’s Ian Begley.

Jemison, standing at 6-foot-11 and weighing 270 pounds, brings much-needed depth to the Knicks’ frontcourt, which is crucial as they look to maximize the talents of stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson. With this signing, the Knicks now have one open two-way spot as they prepare for the rigors of training camp.

A Journey Through the Ranks

Despite his promising physical attributes, Jemison’s NBA career thus far has not made a significant impact. Over two seasons, he has donned jerseys for the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies before landing with the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2024 free agency period. Unfortunately for Jemison, his time in New Orleans was short-lived, as he was waived in early January.

Following his release, he found an opportunity with the Lakers, joining a storied franchise with high expectations. However, Jemison’s performance did not meet the mark, as he averaged just 2.6 points and 2.8 rebounds over 22 appearances. His struggles prompted the Lakers to part ways with him before the season concluded.

Potential for Growth

While Jemison may still be a work in progress, his high energy and defensive tenacity offer a glimmer of hope for the Knicks. As he embarks on his third year as a professional, there is optimism that he can develop his skills and become a more impactful player in the league. The organization is betting on his potential to evolve into a valuable contributor.

As training camp approaches, the Knicks will be keeping a close eye on Jemison’s progress. The question remains whether this young big man can seize this opportunity and make a name for himself in New York before his chance slips away.
