Nurkic Finds Joy with the Jazz
Since joining the Utah Jazz earlier this offseason, Jusuf Nurkic has stepped into a crucial role within the team’s rotation. With starter Walker Kessler sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury, Nurkic has embraced the opportunity to shine. Over the course of 29 games, he has averaged 9.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in just over 25 minutes per game, establishing himself as Utah’s primary starting center and the leading rebounder during the first two months of the season.
A New Lease on Life
In reflecting on his experience with the Jazz, Nurkic made it clear that this season has been a refreshing change for him. Following Utah’s recent loss to the Boston Celtics, he opened up about the positive atmosphere surrounding the organization. “When life is up and down, you want to get away from what is wrong,” Nurkic stated. “When you’re looking for the opportunity and feel wanted, it’s definitely the most fun that I’ve had in a few years now.”
His enthusiasm for the Jazz transcends personal performance; it’s also rooted in the support he feels from the organization. “I can’t really stress enough how good this organization is,” he emphasized.
The Jazz’s Hidden Strengths
Nurkic pointed out that the Jazz’s reputation might not fully reflect the quality of the environment they cultivate. “I’ve felt [that’s gone] under-the-radar since I’ve been in the league. You never hear bad things, but it’s not like everybody’s talking about how good the organization is.” He acknowledged the positive influences of the team’s new ownership and management, including Danny Ainge, which have contributed to a revitalized culture.
In his conversations with teammates, particularly veteran Kevin Love, Nurkic has fostered a supportive atmosphere for the younger players. “We talk every day to the young guys; we have such a great thing here,” he shared.
A Contrast to Past Experiences
Nurkic’s remarks also touched on the stark contrast between the culture in Utah and other teams he has been part of. “The people don’t understand how it is somewhere else,” he noted. While he refrained from disparaging other organizations, his appreciation for the Jazz’s environment was palpable. “It’s such a great environment, and you have everything you need to succeed.”
For Nurkic, this season with the Jazz represents more than just a new chapter in his career; it’s a return to joy and fulfillment on the court. As he continues to contribute to the team’s success, his words serve as a testament to the positive direction in which the Jazz are heading.
