Jamal Murray’s Stellar Start Positions Him for All-Star Recognition
In the opening stretch of the Denver Nuggets’ season, Jamal Murray has catapulted himself into the All-Star conversation, potentially earning his first selection since entering the league in 2016. With the All-Star game scheduled for February in Los Angeles, Murray’s performance thus far has made a compelling case for his inclusion alongside teammate Nikola Jokic.
A Shift from Slow Starts
Traditionally, Murray has been known for sluggish starts to his seasons, often heating up as the year progresses. However, this season marks a significant departure from that pattern. He is currently averaging an impressive 24.9 points per game, shooting at an efficient 50% from the field, 44% from three-point range, and 89% from the free-throw line. Additionally, he contributes 4.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game, playing a crucial role in the Nuggets’ strong position within the competitive Western Conference.
Endorsements from Within
Nuggets assistant coach Jared Dudley has taken note of Murray’s elevated play and its impact on the team’s success. He believes that if the Nuggets continue their winning ways, multiple players, including Murray, could earn All-Star nods. “I think the big thing for him and for us is, if the team is good, we can get two or three guys in,” Dudley remarked.
He continued, emphasizing Murray’s growth this season: “Everyone knows he’s taken a whole other level up. His leadership. Defensively, he’s super-aggressive. And I hope he gets it. I think that as a team, if we win, he’ll be there.”
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Murray, whose impressive start not only enhances his All-Star candidacy but also signals a critical chapter in the Nuggets’ quest for success.
