Jalen Williams explodes back from injury, ignites Thunder to historic 23-1 start without postseason awards!

Jalen Williams Returns Strong, Fuels Thunder’s Historic Start

After recovering from offseason wrist surgery, Jalen Williams has made a triumphant return to the Oklahoma City Thunder, igniting their remarkable season. The 2024-25 All-NBA forward missed the first 19 games, grappling with the aftermath of a torn right scapholunate ligament suffered last April. Despite starting slowly upon his return, Williams has quickly regained his midseason form, showcasing why he’s such a pivotal player for the Thunder.

From Injury to Impact

Williams’ injury woes began during a regular-season clash against the Phoenix Suns on April 9, which saw him play through the pain during the Thunder’s NBA Finals run. After undergoing surgery on July 1, his absence from the court has rendered him ineligible for postseason accolades this year. Nevertheless, his sights are firmly set on replicating last season’s championship heroics.

Even without Williams, the Thunder made waves with an impressive 18-1 record. Since his return, they have maintained their momentum, remaining undefeated in the five games he has played. Williams’ recent outings have been nothing short of spectacular—averaging 20.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.3 steals over his last three games in just 27.3 minutes of play. His shooting has been particularly efficient, with a remarkable 54.3% from the field and a perfect mark from the free-throw line, resulting in a 61.5% true shooting percentage.

Dominance on Display

The Thunder’s recent performance against the Utah Jazz epitomized Williams’ resurgence. In a game where they were without their superstar and reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams stepped up in a commanding 131-101 victory. Despite the team missing several key players, including six listed on the injury report, he and Chet Holmgren led the charge, with the team only trailing once throughout the game.

In that standout performance against the Jazz, Williams scored 25 points with an efficient 11-of-19 shooting. He complemented his scoring with eight assists, two steals, and three rebounds, displaying his versatility and comfort on the court. Williams demonstrated an ability to create his own shots, skillfully navigating the paint with floaters and fadeaway jumpers from the 10-15 foot range.

A Historic Start

With Williams back in the lineup, the Thunder’s record has surged to a historic 23-1, marking them as only the third team in NBA history to achieve such a start. While individual accolades may elude him this season, Williams has returned to form just in time to fortify the Thunder’s championship aspirations.

As the season unfolds, the rest of the NBA should take note: with Jalen Williams back in the mix, the Oklahoma City Thunder are a force to be reckoned with.
