The Houston Rockets’ journey in the NBA Cup has come to an abrupt end, as the team finished group play with a disappointing 2-2 record. This marks the second consecutive year the Rockets will miss the opportunity to showcase their talents in Las Vegas. Their elimination was sealed by losses to both the Denver Nuggets and the San Antonio Spurs, who clinched the group title with a solid 3-1 record.

Unfortunately, with the Nuggets also bowing out of contention in West Group C, Houston’s path became increasingly difficult. Clippers’ Challenges and Historical Context

The Clippers, featuring former Rocket James Harden, have seen him thriving, averaging 27.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists while shooting impressively across the board. However, the team has dealt with significant challenges, including the absence of Kawhi Leonard for much of the early season. Leonard, who returned to action on November 23, is contributing 24.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. With an average age of 33.2, the Clippers boast the distinction of being the oldest team in NBA history, a move that has raised eyebrows among analysts.

Following the battle with the Clippers, the Rockets will travel to Denver to face the Nuggets on December 15 at 8:30 p.m. CT. Their previous encounter during group play ended in a narrow defeat, 112-109, where the Rockets struggled to find their rhythm early on. Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun combined for a lackluster 27 points, shooting just 39% from the field. Despite a sluggish start that saw them net only 12 points in the first quarter, the Rockets rallied thanks to Reed Sheppard’s impressive 27-point performance.

Nuggets’ Star Power

The Nuggets present a formidable challenge, led by early MVP favorite Nikola Jokic. With averages of 29.1 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 11 assists per game, Jokic is a force on the court, nearly achieving a 30-point triple-double against the Rockets in their last matchup. Jamal Murray also made his mark with a solid 26-point, 10-assist outing, contributing to the Nuggets’ overall strength.
