Warriors Make Surprising Roster Moves with Three Waivers

The Golden State Warriors delivered a jolt of unexpected news shortly after the conclusion of Monday’s roster updates. In a swift decision, the organization announced the waiving of forward Ja’Vier Francis, guard Chance McMillian, and forward Jacksen Moni. This development came just five hours after Francis signed with the team, leaving players and fans alike to process the sudden shift.

Chance McMillian’s Journey

Chance McMillian, a 6-foot-3 rookie guard, showcased his potential throughout his collegiate career. He started at Grand Canyon University, where he steadily improved his scoring ability, notably achieving a three-point shooting percentage of 40% or better in two separate seasons.

After the 2022-23 college basketball season, McMillian sought a new challenge, transferring to Texas Tech to compete at a higher level. His tenure in Lubbock proved fruitful, as he averaged 12.5 points per game, shooting an impressive 49.9% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc.

Injury Challenges and Future Prospects

McMillian signed with the Warriors’ summer league squad this past July following an undrafted status. However, his debut was hampered by injury, as he suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle, which necessitated surgery. This unfortunate setback kept him sidelined during both the California Classic and NBA 2K26 Summer League.

Despite the current disappointment, McMillian is expected to continue his development with the Warriors’ G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. There remains optimism that he could secure a standard NBA contract in the future, as he works to regain his form and showcase the talent that caught the Warriors’ attention.

Looking Ahead

Meanwhile, Ja’Vier Francis and Jacksen Moni also face uncertain futures following their waivers. As the Warriors navigate these roster changes, the focus now shifts to how they will bolster their lineup ahead of the upcoming season. The decisions made this week reflect the unpredictable nature of the NBA, where opportunities can quickly turn into challenges.
