Future NBA Stars in the Making

Jalen Montonati Commits to Oklahoma State

On a day that could shape the future of college basketball, two promising prospects in the 2027 NBA Draft cycle made significant announcements. First to make headlines was Jalen Montonati, a four-star wing from Owasso, Oklahoma. Montonati has pledged his commitment to Oklahoma State University and head coach Steve Lutz, signaling his intent to join the Cowboys.

The 6-foot-6 guard has been turning heads with his dynamic play, particularly noted during the City of Palms Classic quarterfinals against the Oak Ridge Pioneers, where he demonstrated his ability to drive to the basket with finesse. Montonati’s commitment to Oklahoma State adds to a growing list of talent that the Cowboys are accumulating, showcasing their ambition to build a competitive program.

Miika Muurinen Eyes Professional Opportunities Abroad

In another development, Finnish basketball sensation Miika Muurinen has decided not to return to Compass Prep in Arizona, a school known for producing recent NBA Draft talent, including Jeremiah Fears and TyTy Washington. Instead, Muurinen is shifting his focus toward professional opportunities in Europe or Australia.

This summer, Muurinen showcased his skills on the international stage with Finland’s senior national team during the FIBA EuroBasket competition. Although he averaged 6.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, his performances alongside NBA stars like Lauri Markkanen and Nikola Jokic highlighted his potential. Notably, in a semifinal match against Germany, he posted 12 points, two rebounds, and a block, further solidifying his status as a player to watch.

Standing at 6-foot-10, Muurinen is currently ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect and the No. 3 power forward in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. His decision to explore professional paths reflects a strategic shift, as he aims to capitalize on his talent in more competitive environments.

Looking Ahead

Both Montonati and Muurinen are positioning themselves for future success, whether in college or at the professional level. As the landscape of basketball continues to evolve, these young athletes are emblematic of the new wave of talent poised to make an impact on the global stage. With Montonati joining Oklahoma State and Muurinen considering his next steps, the basketball world will be watching closely as these potential NBA stars navigate their careers.
