Detroit Pistons stun with Feron Hunt signing ahead of season, G League ace ready to shine!

Detroit Pistons make a surprising move with Feron Hunt signing

The Detroit Pistons are making headlines as they gear up for the upcoming NBA season, now just a couple of weeks away. In a move that has caught many by surprise, the Pistons have signed Feron Hunt, as reported by Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

A G League standout with limited NBA experience

Hunt’s journey to Detroit has been marked by a mix of limited NBA appearances and substantial success in the G League. The 6-foot-8 forward had a brief stint with the New York Knicks during the 2021-22 season, where he played just two games, totaling a mere eight minutes on the court. In that time, he didn’t manage to convert his only shot.

However, Hunt’s professional experience largely stems from his time in the G League, where he truly made a name for himself. Last season, he showcased his skills with the Cleveland Charge, averaging an impressive 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. Prior to his G League success, Hunt also spent a season in Montenegro, further broadening his basketball experience.

College career and potential in the G League

Hunt’s college career at Southern Methodist University (SMU) was marked by consistency, as he averaged 11 points per game in his final two seasons. He also made an impact on the boards, pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game during his last year in college. Despite his scoring ability, Hunt’s outside shooting has been a concern, which may limit his opportunities at the NBA level in today’s game.

The Pistons have signed Hunt to a training camp contract, a move that can often signal the potential for future development. While the likelihood of him making the final roster seems slim, this contract could pave the way for him to join Detroit’s G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise. This path would allow him to continue honing his skills and potentially earn more playing time.

Looking ahead

As the Pistons prepare for the season, Hunt’s signing adds depth to their roster. While he may not be a household name just yet, his G League performance indicates that he has the potential to shine in the right environment. With the Pistons looking to build and develop talent, Feron Hunt could play a crucial role in their plans moving forward, whether on the main roster or in the G League.

The upcoming weeks will be critical for Hunt as he vies for a spot and a chance to prove himself in the competitive landscape of professional basketball.
