Dallas Mavericks Rise in Power Rankings as Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg Spark Team Revival

The Dallas Mavericks have found their rhythm after a challenging start to the season, showcasing a renewed energy that has propelled them up the power rankings. Recent victories against formidable opponents have significantly influenced their standing, lifting them from #21 to #19 in NBA.com writer John Schuhmann’s latest rankings.

Anthony Davis Makes His Mark

Anthony Davis has been a key player in this resurgence, participating in four consecutive games, including two intense back-to-backs over the weekend. His contributions have been pivotal, as the Mavericks have clinched four wins in their last five outings, with the last three victories coming against the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, and Houston Rockets. Schuhmann noted, “The Mavs’ nine games (they’re 4-5) against the East are tied for the most among Western Conference teams thus far, and they have an extra matchup against the Nets, whom they’ll host on Friday.”

Cooper Flagg’s Impact on Offense

Alongside Davis, rookie sensation Cooper Flagg is beginning to live up to the expectations set during his time at Duke. The No. 1 overall pick has emerged as a significant offensive force for the Mavericks. While his three-point shooting still needs improvement, Flagg has averaged an impressive 23.2 points per game over the last five contests. His shooting splits during this stretch are noteworthy, hitting 9-for-18 from mid-range and showcasing a remarkable 65% efficiency in the paint. Schuhmann remarked, “The Mavs have climbed out of the basement in offensive efficiency, with the last five games being, easily, their best stretch on that end of the floor (119.9 points scored per 100 possessions) this season.”

Competitive Landscape Below the Mavericks

Currently, the Mavericks find themselves ahead of several teams in the rankings, including the Portland Trail Blazers, Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and Washington Wizards. This surge in performance highlights not only the Mavericks’ potential but also the challenges facing teams below them.

Upcoming Challenges and the NBA Cup

The Mavericks will take a brief hiatus as they prepare for the NBA Cup. Their next challenge will be against the Brooklyn Nets, scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT. This matchup will be crucial for maintaining their momentum and continuing their climb in the rankings. As they gear up for the contest, the Mavericks are determined to keep their winning streak alive and solidify their place in the competitive Western Conference landscape.
