Clippers enhance training camp roster with Ivy League sharpshooter and versatile guard

The Los Angeles Clippers have made noteworthy additions to their training camp roster, bringing in John Poulakidas and Jahmyl Telfort. These signings were reported by Spotrac’s Keith Smith, adding fresh faces with significant scoring potential to the squad.

Poulakidas shines in Ivy League

John Poulakidas arrives in Los Angeles after establishing himself as one of the most prolific scorers in recent Ivy League history. During his final season at Yale in 2024-25, he led the conference with an impressive average of 19.4 points per game. His shooting accuracy was equally remarkable, as he connected on 40.8% of his three-point attempts and converted 89.7% of his free throws. In addition to his scoring prowess, Poulakidas contributed 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game for the Bulldogs.

Standing 6-foot-5, Poulakidas possesses a reliable shooting touch that presents an opportunity for him to carve out a role with the Clippers, especially given the team’s emphasis on perimeter shooting.

Telfort brings size and versatility

Joining Poulakidas is Jahmyl Telfort, who is entering his first professional season after a collegiate journey that began at Northeastern and concluded at Butler. Telfort, a formidable presence at 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, was recognized as an All-Big East selection in 2024-25. His impressive stats reflect his capabilities, as he averaged 16.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 36.1% from beyond the arc.

The Clippers appear to have made astute moves with both signings, as they not only add depth but also provide the potential for these players to develop within the organization, possibly spending time in the G League.

Experience and readiness to contribute

Both Poulakidas and Telfort enter the professional ranks as older rookies, having completed extensive college careers. This maturity often translates to a readiness to contribute immediately when called upon. The Clippers’ strategy emphasizes the importance of integrating scoring, shooting, and playmaking talent into their roster, even when it comes to undrafted players.

With these signings, the Clippers are positioning themselves to enhance their training camp competition, providing opportunities for these talented individuals to showcase their abilities and potentially secure a place on the roster.
