Brooklyn Nets Bring Acie Law Onboard as Director of Player Personnel
Nets’ New Hire Signals a Strategic Shift
On Friday, the Brooklyn Nets announced the addition of Acie Law to their front office, a move that underscores their commitment to rebuilding the franchise. Law will step into the role of Director of Player Personnel, a position that will allow him to leverage his extensive basketball experience in guiding the Nets through this transitional period.
Law, a former NBA point guard, began his professional journey in 2007 after being selected 11th overall in the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. During his rookie season, he played in 56 games, averaging 4.2 points and 15 minutes of play per game. His early career saw him move from the Hawks to the Golden State Warriors, where he continued to develop his skills on the court.
A Journey Through the NBA and Beyond
Acie Law’s career took him through several teams during his time in the NBA. The 2009-2010 season was particularly tumultuous, as he found himself on three different rosters: the Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and Chicago Bulls. He returned to the Warriors for a second stint in the 2010-2011 season, while also spending time with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Though Law did not accumulate significant accolades in the NBA, his overseas career proved to be fruitful. After leaving the league, he signed with a Serbian team and later joined a club in Greece, where he won the Greek League Championship and earned a spot on the All-Greek League Second Team. Law’s success continued as he helped his EuroLeague team clinch back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.
Following his playing days, Law transitioned into coaching, initially serving as an assistant at Ranger College. He later took on a scouting role with the Sacramento Kings for two seasons, before rising to the position of Director of Amateur Scouting for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2022, where he honed his skills in talent evaluation.
Navigating the Nets’ Rebuilding Phase
The Nets are at a pivotal moment in their franchise history, having moved on from the star-studded trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. After finishing last season with a disappointing 26-56 record, the team found itself outside the Play-In Tournament, finishing as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
In the recent NBA Draft Lottery, the Nets secured the eighth overall pick, which they used to select BYU guard Egor Demin. They followed this up by drafting French prospect Nolan Traore, along with Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf. These selections signal a clear intent to inject fresh talent into the roster as the Nets embark on their rebuilding journey.
With Acie Law now in the fold, the Brooklyn Nets are poised to navigate the complexities of team reconstruction. His background and experiences, both as a player and a scout, will be critical as the organization seeks to redefine its identity and aspirations in the competitive landscape of the NBA.
