Brandon Ingram’s Bold Assertion on His Game

Brandon Ingram’s Impact on the Raptors

The Toronto Raptors may have found the catalyst they need in Brandon Ingram. As the team aims to elevate its performance this season, the forward’s presence could be pivotal in driving them toward success. Fresh off a three-year, $120 million contract signed over the offseason, Ingram is ready for a new chapter in Toronto. He is determined to reclaim the potential that led him to be selected as the number two overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Ingram recently shared his aspirations for this season during an interview with Sportsnet reporter Michael Grange, emphasizing his desire to demonstrate his elite capabilities on the court. “When I’m right, there’s no one in the league that can stop me,” he declared. He reflected on his confidence, saying, “I’ve seen it firsthand, I promise you I have. When I’m in rhythm and I have my explosive step, I can get to any spot on the floor and I can rise over anybody.” For Ingram, the keys to his game lie in maintaining rhythm, mastering footwork, and playing aggressively. He added, “When I’m playing super-aggressive, you got to bang on the refs to call a foul. I’m either going to get fouled or get to my spot.”

Ingram’s Early Season Form

So far, Ingram appears to be returning to his All-Star form, reminiscent of his standout performance in 2020. In the early stages of the season, he is averaging an impressive 22.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game across the Raptors’ first three contests. Maintaining this level of play, however, hinges on his health. Ingram is aware that he must approach the season with a balanced mindset, recognizing the importance of pacing himself.

“I think most of my injuries have come from overworking,” Ingram explained. “I don’t know how to stay out of the gym. Every day, I want to do a two-a-day.” He understands the necessity of rest and recovery, noting that it’s crucial to know when to push hard and when to take mental breaks. “It’s all about that … I’m just trying to do everything I can do that’s in my control,” he emphasized.

A Supporting Role for Success

If Ingram can navigate the season without significant injuries, he could be the missing piece the Raptors need to return to playoff contention. His drive and determination to excel make him an ideal complement to emerging stars like Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett.

Garrett Temple, a fellow Raptors forward, remarked on Ingram’s motivation this season. “He definitely has something to prove,” Temple stated. “I think he wants to show people he can be a winner. He can be a winner on a team that wins, that has some success, and he wants to prove that he can play for a long time and is reliable.” Temple also pointed out that many may underestimate Ingram’s abilities. “He understands who he is, and I think some people forget what he can do. He’s ready to show people again.”

As the Raptors gear up for the season, all eyes will be on Ingram. His potential to dominate on the court, coupled with his hunger to succeed, may very well be the key to unlocking the team’s aspirations.
