Atlanta Hawks’ defense humiliates fans as Knicks dominate boards in shocking defeat

Hawks’ Defensive Struggles Exposed in Loss to Knicks

The Atlanta Hawks are reeling, having dropped seven consecutive games, and the questions surrounding their performance are growing louder. While there are numerous factors contributing to this troubling stretch, one stands out above the rest: the team’s defense. Recent matchups, highlighted by a staggering 152-150 loss to the Bulls and a disheartening 126-98 defeat against San Antonio, have laid bare the deficiencies plaguing Atlanta’s defensive unit.

Board Dominance by the Knicks

In their latest encounter with the New York Knicks, the Hawks’ weaknesses were further underscored, particularly in the battle on the boards. New York not only outperformed Atlanta but did so emphatically, finishing with 10 more offensive rebounds in a narrow three-point victory. The Knicks exploited this disparity from the outset, snatching eight of those offensive boards in the first quarter alone. This early dominance illustrated the Hawks’ lack of preparation to counter the physicality that the Knicks brought to the game.

The overall rebounding tally was telling, with New York claiming a commanding 55-37 advantage. The Knicks’ ability to secure two critical offensive rebounds at pivotal moments added to Atlanta’s woes. The first of these rebounds helped establish a ten-point lead, while the second directly contributed to Onyeka Okongwu fouling out after contesting a putback. Although Okongwu’s absence in the game’s final seconds couldn’t entirely be blamed for the loss, it certainly diminished Atlanta’s chances. He had been a standout performer, finishing with 31 points and 14 rebounds, including six three-pointers on ten attempts.

A Season of Struggles on the Glass

The Knicks’ prowess on the boards is well-known, contributing significantly to their success. However, Atlanta’s struggles in this area have been particularly alarming this season. The question now looms large: Can the Hawks rectify their rebounding deficiencies before the situation worsens in the Eastern Conference standings? The stakes are rising, and the clock is ticking for Atlanta to find a solution to their rebounding woes if they hope to turn their season around.
