Anthony Edwards’ Timberwolves return uncertain as big showdown against Grizzlies looms

Date:

Anthony Edwards’ Status Clouded Ahead of Grizzlies Clash

As the Minnesota Timberwolves gear up to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, uncertainty looms over the return of star guard Anthony Edwards. After being sidelined for the last two games due to right foot soreness, his participation remains in question.

Coaching Insights on Edwards’ Condition

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch shared an update during a Tuesday morning interview on KFAN-FM 100.3, stating, “It’s definitely improving. He’s still day to day.” Finch emphasized the importance of practice, noting, “We have practice here this morning, and we’ll see what he looks like coming in. But he was able to move around and get up some shots yesterday. We’re headed in the right direction, but I’m not sure of an exact return time just yet.”

If Edwards is unable to suit up against the Grizzlies, his next chance to play will come on Friday when the formidable Oklahoma City Thunder visit Minneapolis.

Backup Point Guard Situation

The Timberwolves have also been navigating the absence of veteran point guard Mike Conley, who has missed the last two games due to right Achilles tendinopathy. His status for the upcoming game against Memphis is still unclear, adding another layer of uncertainty to the Timberwolves’ lineup.

Rudy Gobert’s Status Clarified

In the midst of these injury concerns, Rudy Gobert’s situation has been clarified. The center contributed seven points and 12 rebounds in 20 minutes before being ruled out for personal reasons midway through the third quarter in Minnesota’s victory over Sacramento on Sunday night. Finch reassured fans about Gobert, stating, “Absolutely everything’s OK with Rudy. He’ll be back today and in the lineup tomorrow. He’s been having a phenomenal season for us so far.”

Timberwolves’ Recent Success and Upcoming Challenges

The Timberwolves have found their rhythm, winning seven of their last eight games to improve their record to 17-9 overall. Following their matchup with Memphis, the schedule intensifies, featuring three of the next four games against tough opponents, including the Thunder, Knicks, and Nuggets.

Finch acknowledged the challenge ahead, particularly with the Thunder, who currently boast the best record in the NBA. “They’re an outstanding team,” he remarked. “We know them well. We gotta get some signature wins for this season. That would be a great one.”

The Timberwolves’ game against Oklahoma City is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
