Anthony Edwards sets Timberwolves ablaze with historic scoring surge

Anthony Edwards is currently experiencing an extraordinary scoring spree, one that has captivated NBA fans and analysts alike. The Timberwolves’ young star showcased his talent with a season-high 44 points in an overtime victory against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. This performance marked his sixth consecutive game scoring at least 30 points, a feat that ties him with Kevin Love for the longest such streak in franchise history, a record set back in February 2014.

Record-breaking performances

Edwards’ recent scoring explosion is nothing short of remarkable. Over the last six games, he has amassed a staggering 230 points, averaging 38.3 points per game while shooting an impressive 56 percent from the field and 48 percent from beyond the arc. This scoring stretch not only eclipses his own previous record of 224 points set last season but also stands as the highest six-game point total by any player in the league this season.

What truly sets this scoring run apart is the sheer volume of points Edwards has scored in the latter halves of games. Of the 230 points he has scored during this stretch, an eye-popping 150 have come in the second half and overtime. Edwards has displayed remarkable efficiency, going 51 of 84 from the field (a striking 61 percent), while also converting 21 of 36 attempts from three-point range (58 percent). Additionally, he has made 27 of 35 free throws (77 percent), showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

A historical parallel with Kobe Bryant

The statistical achievements during this remarkable stretch have drawn comparisons to some of the greatest players in NBA history. A notable highlight emerged from the data compiled by OptaSTATS, revealing that the last player to achieve 150+ points, 50+ field goals, and 25+ free throws after halftime over a six-game span was none other than Kobe Bryant in March 2007. This was during the peak of Bryant’s career, a time when he was securing his second consecutive scoring title and famously scored 50 or more points in four consecutive games.

Edwards’ recent performances not only reflect his scoring prowess but also position him within a rarefied air of NBA history. As he continues to light up the scoreboard, the basketball world watches with keen interest, eager to see how far this young talent can take his game. The Timberwolves are undoubtedly benefiting from Edwards’ astounding abilities, and as he writes his own chapter in franchise history, fans can only hope this is just the beginning.
