Anthony Black shines as Magic’s game-changer in thrilling victory over Bulls

Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black is experiencing a remarkable surge in performance, one that stands out since he was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Throughout his tenure with the Magic, Black had never achieved the feat of scoring in double figures for eight consecutive games… until now. With an impressive 22 points against the Chicago Bulls, he not only extended his streak but also played a pivotal role in securing a 125-120 win for his team.

A Coach’s Praise for Black’s Performance

Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley didn’t hold back in his admiration for Black’s performance, referring to the guard as a de facto starter due to his extensive minutes on the court. “Yeah, I think Anthony played so many dang minutes I just considered him a starter at that point. He was great,” Mosley remarked. “He absolutely was great in that second half. I think he decided to turn it up, attacking the basket, getting stops, leading out on the break, stepping into his shot with confidence.”

Mosley acknowledged the game wasn’t aesthetically pleasing, yet emphasized the importance of learning from it. “It is a win, and we got to learn from it because we can’t flip it on and off. We’ve got to stay consistent in what we’re doing and how we’re playing,” he added.

Black Steps Up in Banchero’s Absence

In the wake of Paolo Banchero’s injury due to a groin strain, Black has embraced the challenge of leading the second unit. This opportunity has catalyzed significant growth in his game. Not only is he becoming a scoring threat, but he is also making strides defensively and facilitating opportunities for his teammates. His multifaceted development is exactly what the Magic need as they aim for a playoff push, establishing him as the team’s potential X-factor.

Looking Ahead

With the momentum from their recent victory, Black and the Magic are gearing up to face De’Aaron Fox and the San Antonio Spurs. The matchup is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Kia Center, with fans able to catch the action on FanDuel Sports Network or stream it via NBA League Pass.

As the Magic continue to navigate the season, Black’s evolving role will be critical to their success, showcasing the depth of talent that could define their journey in the months ahead.
