Acie Law Steps Up as Brooklyn Nets’ New Director of Player Personnel

Acie Law is set to embark on a new chapter with the Brooklyn Nets as their Director of Player Personnel, following a highly successful tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This appointment comes in the wake of his championship victory last season, highlighting his capacity to identify and cultivate talent within the league.

A New Era for the Nets

Last year marked a significant shift for the Nets when they appointed Jordi Fernandez as head coach, a move aimed at revitalizing the team’s youth development strategy. Now, by bringing Acie Law into the fold, Brooklyn is doubling down on its commitment to enhance its roster through savvy scouting and player development.

Sources confirmed that Law’s hiring was first reported by HoopsHype, signaling the franchise’s intent to build upon the foundation laid by Fernandez. Law’s previous role as the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Thunder since 2022 proves he is well-equipped for this new challenge.

A Rich Basketball Background

At 40 years old, Law’s journey in professional basketball spans seven years, including four seasons in the NBA. His career took him through various teams—Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Bobcats, Chicago Bulls, and Memphis Grizzlies—before transitioning into scouting.

From 2018 to 2022, Law served as a scout for the Sacramento Kings. During this period, he played a pivotal role in the team’s drafting decisions, contributing to the acquisition of several notable players including Marvin Bagley III, Tyrese Haliburton, Davion Mitchell, and Keegan Murray. Although Haliburton was ultimately traded, Law’s influence in selecting the young guard cannot be understated.

Success with Oklahoma City Thunder

Law’s significant contributions continued with the Thunder, where he was instrumental in building a championship-caliber roster. Under his guidance, the team effectively utilized the draft to secure key players like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams. Their development was crucial in leading the Thunder to a title run, showcasing Law’s ability to spot and nurture emerging talent.

With his extensive experience both on the court and in scouting, Acie Law’s transition to the Brooklyn Nets marks a strategic move aimed at enriching the team’s future prospects. As he steps into his new role, the Nets hope his keen eye for talent will help elevate the franchise in the competitive landscape of the NBA.
