Nikola Tsolov, from the ART team, secured another victory in the FIA Formula 3 sprint race at the Red Bull Ring. The Alpine junior driver overtook his competitors, Martinius Stenshorne and Christian Mansell, to claim first place on the podium.
At the start of the race, Mansell managed to overtake Stenshorne at Turn 1, while Tsolov skillfully maneuvered on the outside of Turn 6 to secure second place for the ART team.
There were some incidents on the track, including contact between Kacper Sztuka and Charlie Wurtz, as well as a spin from Dino Beganovic. Fortunately, Gabriele Mini managed to avoid any collisions.
Due to these incidents, the safety car was deployed for a short period. Once the race resumed on lap 5, both ART drivers maintained their positions.
Further back in the pack, Luke Browning made an impressive double overtake on Arvid Lindblad and Nikita Bedrin at Turn 4, advancing from 15th to 11th place.
The championship leader, Leonardo Fornaroli, attempted a bold maneuver on Mari Boya at Turn 3, momentarily going off track but successfully completing the overtake.
Meanwhile, Tsolov showcased his skills once again, overtaking his ART teammate at Turns 4 and 5 to take the lead.
Browning continued to make progress, overtaking Tim Tramnitz on the exit of Turn 3 to secure 10th place.
Alex Dunne, in fourth position, faced increasing pressure from Sebastian Montoya as the Campos driver closed in.
Montoya’s teammate, Oliver Goethe, also aimed to overtake Laurens Van Hoepen for sixth place.
Further back in the pack, Mari Boya, who started from the back of the grid, made impressive gains and climbed up to 15th position.
Upon reaching lap 14, the leading positions remained unchanged, but Mansell and Stenshorne were closing in on leader Tsolov, unable to break the DRS effect.
On the following lap, Mansell managed to pass Tsolov at Turn 3, but the Bulgarian driver quickly regained the position just one turn later.
Mansell attempted another maneuver for the lead on the next lap, briefly taking the lead before Tsolov once again reclaimed his position.
While all the drivers took advantage of tire degradation to make overtakes, Montoya suffered a major accident at Turn 4 while trying to overtake Alex Dunne, colliding with the walls and coming to a stop in the middle of the track, resulting in the deployment of the second safety car of the race.
Prior to the safety car period, Tsolov managed to hold onto the first position during the battle for the lead, with Stenshorne taking advantage of the competition ahead to overtake Mansell.
Unfortunately, Lindblad was forced to retire from the race after suffering a tire puncture while fighting with a Trident car.
With only one lap remaining, the safety car returned to the pits, but the top 10 positions remained unchanged as the drivers chose not to take unnecessary risks.
As a result, Tsolov secured his second victory of the season following his win in the sprint race in Monaco, with Stenshorne and Mansell completing the podium.
Dunne, Van Hoepen, and Mini finished in fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively, while Goethe finished in seventh.
This was a significant achievement for ART Grand Prix, with their three cars finishing among the top five in the race.
Tim Tramnitz, Noel Leon, and Sami Meguetounif completed the top ten positions in the sprint race.
