F1 Academy Managing Director, Susie Wolff, has shared her admiration for Lewis Hamilton as he prepares to switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025. After 12 record-breaking years with Mercedes, Hamilton is set to make the high-profile move, and Wolff believes it will be an unforgettable moment to see the seven-time world champion in Ferrari’s iconic red race suit.
Hamilton, widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, has amassed seven world titles and an unprecedented 105 victories since his debut in 2007. Beyond the track, he’s known for his vocal advocacy on social issues, including racism and equality, further cementing his legacy in the sport.
Wolff, reflecting on Hamilton’s dedication and work ethic, praised him for his relentless pursuit of excellence. She expressed a mix of emotions about his departure from Mercedes but emphasized the significance of Hamilton joining Ferrari.
“I remember even at the age of 8 how he was outstanding,” Wolff said. “Quite often you have this perception of Lewis from a distance… But he works incredibly hard off track in every aspect of his life. As much as I’m sad in a way that he’s going to end his journey with Mercedes, I think it will be an iconic moment to see Lewis in a Ferrari race suit next season.”
Despite Hamilton’s challenging 2024 season, he secured emotional wins at Spa and Silverstone. The 39-year-old hopes to finish his Mercedes stint on a high note before embarking on this historic new chapter with Ferrari.
Hamilton has also voiced his concerns about the escalating costs of pursuing a career in motorsport. He revealed that the price of getting into Formula 1 has skyrocketed since he started, making it nearly impossible for many talented young drivers to afford the pathway.
“It’s just crazy expensive. I don’t know how much more it is today, but I heard it’s two or three times, four times more than it was when I started. If I hadn’t been signed by Mercedes and McLaren, I wouldn’t be here today,” Hamilton stated, emphasizing the need for subsidization to make the sport more accessible for future generations.
As Hamilton prepares to make the monumental shift to Ferrari, fans and pundits alike are excited to witness this next chapter in his storied career, one that could further solidify his status as a Formula 1 legend.
