Lando Norris, McLaren driver, believes that the upcoming Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix will showcase how McLaren has addressed its weakness in low-speed corners. Last season, McLaren made significant improvements and went from being eliminated in Q1 to regularly competing for podiums. However, the team still struggled in low-speed corners. Recent updates in Miami showed promise in this area, and Norris was able to secure his first F1 victory. McLaren’s strong performance in Monaco has given them confidence, but Norris acknowledges that the long straights and low-speed traction zones of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will truly test their abilities in slower corners. He believes this is still the team’s biggest weakness and they need to continue improving to keep up with Ferrari. Despite this, Norris recognizes the progress McLaren has made in addressing the vulnerabilities of their car and is optimistic about closing the gap with their competitors. However, McLaren still has work to do to improve the handling of the MCL38 over curbs and bumps. They need to focus on more fundamental development rather than just adapting their current setup. Other cars seem to handle curbs with more confidence, and McLaren drivers have expressed their desire for similar performance.
