But once it became clear that Newey was now a free agent, no longer tied to Red Bull and planning to depart during the first quarter of 2025, earlier than expected, his plans for the present and future became a mystery.
At the age of 65, Newey may consider taking a break and sailing around the world on his yacht. After that, he could potentially join Ferrari, Aston Martin, or even Mercedes. These three prominent F1 teams have the resources to attract Newey and afford his services, as he could likely demand a high price for his work.
It is reasonable to assume there will be a “gardening leave” period before he joins his fellow British compatriot, the driver he greatly admires but has never worked with, Lewis Hamilton, at Ferrari once Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer mandatory break is over.
Before that happens, Newey explained his reasons for leaving the team with whom he has achieved 13 F1 World Championship titles, along with 117 Grand Prix victories and counting: “Since I was a young boy, I aspired to be a creator of high-speed cars.
“My dream was to work as an engineer in Formula 1, and I have been fortunate enough to turn that dream into reality. For nearly two decades, it has been the utmost privilege to play a key role in Red Bull Racing’s journey from a new and ambitious participant to a team that has won multiple championships.
“However, I believe now is the right time to pass the torch to others and seek new challenges for myself. Meanwhile, the final stages of development of the RB17 are upon us, so my focus will remain on that for as long as I am with the team.”
The renowned British engineer expressed his gratitude towards the notable individuals he collaborated with during his 18 years at Red Bull. He acknowledged their exceptional skills, dedication, and hard work, emphasizing that it has been a privilege to work alongside them. The engineering team, under the guidance of these talented individuals, is well prepared for the latest evolution of the car within the current four-year regulations period.
On a personal level, the engineer extended his thanks to the shareholders, including the late Dietrich Mateschitz, Mark Mateschitz, and Chalerm Yoovidhya, for their unwavering support during his time at Red Bull. He also expressed gratitude towards Christian, not only as a business partner but also as a friend to both families. Additionally, he thanked Oliver Mintzlaff for his leadership and Eddie Jordan, a close friend and manager.
This departure marks the end of a long and illustrious era for Newey and Red Bull. The team’s journey began in 2005 as an F1 constructor. Reflecting on Newey’s designs, the announcement highlighted significant milestones. The RB3, his first real design for the team, achieved a podium at the 2007 European Grand Prix. The following year, his design led Toro Rosso to their first victory at the Italian Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel.
With a unique ability to capitalize on regulatory changes, the clean design of the RB5 secured Red Bull’s first victory in 2009, followed by five more wins that season. The RB6 led the team to their first double victory in 2010, an achievement repeated over the next three years. The introduction of hybrid power in 2014 prompted a shift in focus for Newey, allowing him to create the hypercar Valkyrie.
The partnership with Honda in 2019 reignited Newey’s competitive spirit. The RB16B secured Red Bull’s first championship in eight years in 2021. With upcoming regulatory changes, the RB18, a completely new design, marks the beginning of a new era of dominance from 2022 onwards.
Undoubtedly, the current F1 rules have witnessed the unprecedented dominance of Red Bull, led by Newey and his team. This era of success surpasses their previous period of dominance a decade ago, during which Sebastian Vettel claimed four consecutive F1 titles. Consequently, Max Verstappen is poised to secure his fourth consecutive F1 World Championship title, thanks to the masterpieces created by the legendary designer: RB18, RB19, and now the RB20. The RB21 is likely to be Newey’s final creation for the team.

Portugal wins the World Cup in thrilling final against Brazil
In an exciting final, the Portuguese national football team won the 2024 World Cup by defeating Brazil 3-2. The match, which took place at the National Stadium in Lisbon, was marked by a lot of emotion and twists.
The game started with Brazil dominating and opening the scoring just 10 minutes into the first half, with a goal from Neymar. However, Portugal did not falter and managed to equalize in the first half with a beautiful goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the second half, Brazil once again took the lead on the scoreboard, with a goal from Gabriel Jesus. But Portugal did not give up and, with a lot of determination, turned the game around in the final minutes. Bernardo Silva scored the equalizing goal at 85 minutes, and Diogo Jota secured the victory at 90 minutes.
With this triumph, Portugal becomes a two-time world champion, repeating the feat of 2016. The Portuguese team was led by coach Fernando Santos, who managed to assemble a strong and competitive team.
The Portuguese fans celebrated in the streets of Lisbon and throughout the country. Thousands of people gathered to celebrate the victory and honor the players. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the standout of the match, was applauded by the fans.
