/ Lamborghini Iron Lynx’s LMDh venture will be fully committed to by choosing Ligier as their chassis manufacturer, according to Emmanuel Esnault, a representative of the Italian company, during a pre-season media briefing.
“With the tight schedule we had, it was crucial for us to have a partner who could solely focus on this program,” said Esnault, who is from Le Mans.
“In addition, Ligier has a rich history in racing, producing race cars for endurance and other activities.
“We are still conducting tests – we have three days of testing in Barcelona and three days of testing in Sebring.”
Lamborghini plans to debut the SC63 at the second race of the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the 12 Hours of Sebring, on March 16.
In addition to running one car in the four remaining races of the Endurance Cup calendar, they will also run one car in the FIA World Endurance Championship, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 15-16.
Esnault, the LMDh project manager at Lamborghini, stated, “… The car has recently been homologated, so we approach the season with a lot of humility, considering the competitors on the grid and our involvement in endurance racing for a while.”
Competitors who choose the LMDh formula can select between four chassis manufacturers: Oreca, Dallara, Ligier, and Multimatic.
Until Lamborghini’s decision, Ligier was the only LMDh manufacturer not represented in the Hypercar era, mainly known for their Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car in various series that utilize the category, including IMSA’s Sportscar Challenge.
Additionally, Sean Creech Motorsport plans to run a Ligier JS P217 LMP2 car for the first time in five years of IMSA competition.
Lamborghini hopes that Ligier can cater to their Hypercar program, allowing both parties to learn, understand, and develop the SC63 together.
For example, Dallara is involved in two Hypercar projects, one in LMDh chassis development for Cadillac – all based on the next generation of LMP2 – and another for Ferrari AF Corse’s 499P Le Mans Hypercar.
