Lewis Hamilton’s younger sibling had to find a quiet place to learn about the Ferrari news. Nicolas Hamilton, a driver in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), has shared how his older brother informed him about his move to Ferrari. The announcement of the seven-time World Champion’s departure from Mercedes at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, to join Ferrari, left the world in shock. Hamilton will take over from Carlos Sainz at Maranello in 2025, having signed a “multi-year” contract as a 103-time race winner. This transfer is widely regarded as the most significant in the history of the sport for obvious reasons. To ensure that his family didn’t find out about the move through social media, the Mercedes driver personally called his loved ones, including his brother. Nicolas shared on Instagram that his brother kept messaging him, asking if he could call. However, the BTCC driver was initially busy with dinner, causing a delay in their conversation. Eventually, they were able to speak when Nicolas found a secluded place where no one was present. During an Instagram live, Nicolas mentioned that he was doing a public speaking engagement for Coca-Cola the day before. Lewis called him the night before, but Nicolas was at dinner and couldn’t answer. Later that night, when Nicolas called him back, Lewis was already in bed. Nicolas informed Lewis that he was heading to work for a speech and that they could talk later that evening when he was free. However, Lewis insisted on speaking urgently. Nicolas asked for five minutes, and Lewis inquired if Nicolas could talk without anyone overhearing. Nicolas confirmed that he could, and that’s when Lewis revealed the news of his move to Ferrari in 2025. Nicolas was taken aback and exclaimed his surprise and excitement. Lewis and Nicolas share a close bond, often seen together in each other’s garages. In fact, Nicolas had Lewis in attendance when he raced at Donington Park last year, where he achieved his best result in the UK series.
