Ty Gibbs and Joey Logano engaged in a heated confrontation following the LA Clash race. This is not the first time Logano has found himself in a bitter feud to start the season, as last year it was his former teammate who publicly criticized him for being deceitful. This time, the clash was with Gibbs, who replaced Logano’s former teammate at JGR.
Throughout the race, Logano and Gibbs battled for the lead and experienced a few racing incidents. However, with only ten laps remaining, Gibbs made an aggressive move to overtake Logano, resulting in both drivers losing momentum and dropping down the order. Meanwhile, another driver seized the opportunity and went on to win the race.
After the race, Logano confronted Gibbs in front of his team’s hauler, engaging in a heated argument. Logano pointed out that Gibbs made a mistake by using him up. Given their history, it is unwise for Gibbs to employ such tactics in his second year in the Cup Series.
Gibbs joined the Cup Series in 2023 as the reigning Xfinity Series champion and had a solid year despite not securing any wins. He came close to making it into the playoffs based on points, and many anticipate him achieving his first NASCAR race victories and qualifying for the playoffs in the upcoming 2024 season.
While Gibbs is expected to have a successful year, engaging in a feud with Logano is not the right approach. Logano is known for retaliating and driving aggressively, and he was once in a similar position as Gibbs when he entered the Cup series at a young age. As a veteran driver, Logano is familiar with Gibbs’ feelings and knows how to counter him.
Logano has had significant on-track incidents with several drivers in the past. Being a respected figure in the NASCAR community, he could easily manipulate the narrative to portray Gibbs as the antagonist. As Gibbs is already disliked by many fans, a feud with Logano could turn even more fans against him if things escalate negatively.
