Report in progress…
The Formula 1 grid lined up on the starting line for the 24-lap Sprint race, which is the third of its kind this season. The weather conditions were clear, with the track temperature reaching 43 degrees Celsius and the air temperature at 29 degrees. There was no risk of rain.
All teams adopted a cautious approach, opting to use medium tires for all drivers. This decision was made to avoid any potential risks associated with using soft tires, particularly considering the high track temperatures. Alex Albon will start from the pit lane due to Williams violating the parc fermé to make some changes to his car’s setup.
After the first formation lap, the start was aborted and another formation lap was conducted. This meant that there were now only 23 laps remaining in the Sprint race.
The race started cleanly for all drivers. Max Verstappen had an impressive start, while Oscar Piastri tried to challenge Lando Norris. However, Norris managed to stay ahead and maintain his position at turn 1. Verstappen began to build a lead, while the two McLarens engaged in a battle with each other.
On the second lap, out of a total of 23, Verstappen was leading the race, followed by Norris and Piastri. Carlos Sainz overtook George Russell to secure fourth position, while Charles Leclerc gained an incredible three positions and found himself in seventh place. Kevin Magnussen also made progress and moved up to ninth place.
In the third lap, out of a total of 23, Norris approached Verstappen and tried to overtake him. However, Norris went out of the DRS (Drag Reduction System) activation zone and couldn’t make a successful overtaking maneuver.
The battle at the front continued in the fourth lap, out of a total of 23. Verstappen went wide in turn 4, giving Norris another opportunity to attack. Despite Norris’ efforts, Verstappen managed to defend his position.
Norris eventually took the lead from Verstappen in the fifth lap, out of a total of 23. However, Verstappen quickly retaliated with a brilliant late braking maneuver, reclaiming the lead. Meanwhile, Piastri took advantage of the battle between Verstappen and Norris and successfully passed his teammate.
Piastri continued his pursuit of Verstappen in the sixth lap, out of a total of 23. However, Verstappen remained resilient, and Norris stayed within the DRS activation zone of his teammate.
Verstappen expressed his dissatisfaction in the seventh lap, out of a total of 23, reporting that he was using too much energy. He was not happy with his energy recovery.
George Russell regained fourth position from Carlos Sainz in the eighth lap, out of a total of 23. At the front of the pack, Verstappen maintained his lead, but Piastri refused to back down.
Verstappen managed to create some distance between himself and Piastri in the ninth lap, out of a total of 23. Although Piastri briefly had the opportunity to use the DRS, Verstappen remained ahead. Leclerc remained in seventh place, while Sergio Perez occupied eighth position.
As the race reached the tenth lap, out of a total of 23, Verstappen managed to distance himself from Piastri’s DRS threat and focused on opening up a gap. The drivers now had to carefully manage their tires. Norris was over two seconds behind his teammate.
Now we’re 12 laps into the race. Here are the current positions.
On lap 12, out of a total of 23, the competition is now between Ferrari and Mercedes. Russell is in fourth position, Sainz is in fifth, and Hamilton is in sixth, with Leclerc in seventh.
Moving on to lap 13, there aren’t many changes. The Alpine cars of Ocon and Gasly are fighting for the 11th and 12th positions.
As we reach lap 14, Norris is closing in on Piastri and has the advantage of DRS. Verstappen, meanwhile, has established a two-second lead up front.
We’ve reached lap 15, and Norris still can’t overtake Piastri, causing him to lose valuable time. Verstappen, now with a 2.2-second advantage, seems safe from any immediate threats.
Hamilton, on lap 16, is within Sainz’s DRS activation zone and begins his pursuit of Ferrari’s fifth place (#55). Perez, however, is far behind Leclerc and unable to challenge for seventh place.
The battle between Norris and Piastri continues on lap 17, while Hamilton persists in his pursuit of Sainz for fifth place.
After completing 17 laps, the question remains: Can Norris regain second place before the end of the race? He is less than a second behind Piastri.
On lap 18, Verstappen’s lead extends to over three seconds, and there are no changes in the scoring positions behind him.
As lap 19 unfolds, the status quo remains intact. Norris now enjoys a lead of over four seconds, benefiting from the ongoing battle between the McLaren drivers.
Finally, on lap 23, Norris launches a final attack on his teammate for second place. However, Piastri defends his position and maintains second place, with his teammate settling for third.
In the positions behind the top three, Russell leads the pack in fourth, followed by Sainz in fifth, Hamilton in sixth, Leclerc in seventh, and Perez securing the final point in eighth.
