India is emerging as one of the leading production hubs for electric vehicles (EVs), especially in the two-wheeler segment, and a new model could be on the verge of shaking up the global market. The country has been able to produce electric motorcycles with impressive specifications at extremely affordable prices, which could democratize access to these vehicles on a global scale.
A notable example is the newly launched T30, a sporty and futuristic electric motorcycle from the Indian startup Raptee.HV. The T30 stands out by shifting the paradigm of electric motorcycles, focusing not only on utility and efficiency but also on riding pleasure and sporty performance.
Cutting-Edge Design and Technology
Visually, the T30 boasts a bold design with sharp, aerodynamic lines, reminiscent of another prominent Indian model, the Ultraviolette F77, a bike that has already started being sold in Europe. The T30 comes equipped with an impressive list of technological features, including a seven-inch touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, a navigation system, and over-the-air (OTA) updates, placing it at the forefront of EV technology.
Performance and Power
When it comes to performance, the T30 does not disappoint. Comparable to a conventional 300cc motorcycle, its 22 kW motor (approximately 30 horsepower) and 70 Nm of torque allow it to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 135 km/h. This is powered by a 5.4 kWh battery, which promises a range of 150 km on a single charge.
When compared to other recently launched models, such as the Can-Am Origin and Pulse, the T30 offers similar range and technology. However, where the T30 truly stands out is in its price.
Unbeatable Price
The T30 hits the Indian market at a price of 239,000 rupees (around $2,800), a fraction of the cost of its international competitors. For instance, the Can-Am Origin costs nearly five times as much. This highly competitive price makes the T30 a very attractive option for a wide range of consumers, especially in price-sensitive markets.
Ready for the Global Market
Although designed for the Indian market, Raptee.HV has global ambitions. The T30 is the first Indian electric motorcycle to come standard with a CCS 2 port, making it compatible with universal EV chargers in various parts of the world. This universal compatibility gives the T30 a strategic advantage, making it easier to enter markets such as Europe and the United States.
If the T30 can maintain its durability and performance on India’s challenging roads, it’s likely to succeed in other global markets as well.
