On Monday, November 25, Pope Francis met with a delegation from the Italian Motorcycle Federation during an audience at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
Among those present were the President of the FIM, Jorge Viegas, and two-time MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia. The leader of the Catholic Church called for greater efforts in road accident prevention.
In his speech, Francis highlighted: ‘There are many victims of road accidents, and many are young! In many cases, poor knowledge or failure to apply safety rules endangers the safety not only of the driver, but also that of others. That is why time spent on educational initiatives in this regard is an investment in life’.
The Pope also emphasized the role of the federation in road safety education and encouraged its members ‘to engage in raising awareness of respect for the rules of the road safety code’.
