The MotoGP test in Barcelona marked the first opportunity for Aprilia’s new technical director, Fabiano Sterlacchini, to work with the team and its new recruit, Jorge Martín.
After claiming the world championship with a Prima Pramac Ducati, Martín embarks on a new chapter of his career with Aprilia – a very different bike and, for the first time, as a factory rider.
Speaking to MOW Mag, Sterlacchini shared his impressions of Martín: ‘In the short time I have worked with Jorge, he seemed like a mix between a champion and a leader. Honestly, the way he approaches the work is amazing’.
The Italian also emphasized that it’s too early to make comparisons between bikes and teams, adding that the focus should remain on the present and the future, not the past:
– He comes from a situation where Ducati’s set-up was tailored to his needs over a process that took years. So, it’s premature to say today what are the best aspects of Ducati compared to Aprilia. And we shouldn’t look too much to the past; we must analyze in the present what is needed for the future.
