The 2024 MotoGP season marks a fresh start for Marc Márquez, who, after a decade with Repsol Honda, sought to join Gresini and ride a Ducati bike. His goal was modest: to see if, with a competitive bike, he could still compete at the top, after all the difficulties he faced since 2020 and the dry spell with Honda.
This season’s start is revealing a Márquez capable of competing at the front once again, which already opens up prospects for different ambitions in the coming years. He is already being touted as one of the possible options to join Francesco Bagnaia in the official Ducati team.
In a press conference, the eight-time world champion mentioned that he is fulfilling his objectives for 2024: ‘Of course differently from Jorge I’m new in Ducati, so I just arrive here in a very special situation and now step-by-step I feel better on the race track, I feel much more confident and this was my target of this year’.
Having said that, Márquez admitted that, if he continues like this, his goal will be to fight for the title in the coming years, acknowledging that to do so, he needs a bike that is up to date and competitive:
– Obviously if I continue on that way in 2025 and 2026 the target will be different, and the target will be fighting for the championship. For that reason, if you want to fight for the championship you need to have the newest material on your bike to have more chances. But as I say, if I’m fast on the race track I’ll have more options for my future and if I have the chance I will decide the best.
